Get Involved Palo Alto Board 2017-18
Christina Owen began studying and writing about youth and nonprofit organizations at University of San Francisco, where she earned dual masters degrees in Teaching and Nonprofit Management. She wrote her thesis on volunteer motivation for Palo Alto Partners in Education, and spent ten years working in Palo Alto Unified School District, creating and developing career and community engagement programs. She enjoys charting unknown territory in work and in life. She is a passionate networker, teaching students in the classroom and in the community to pursue their interests by making connections to their interests, talents, and passions and to make the world a better place.
Tara is excited to join the board as treasurer for Get Involved Project Palo Alto. Tara has previously worked as finance manager at University of Denver. Having worked with Get Involved Project for the previous six months as bookkeeper, she has a good understanding of the financial needs of the organization. With her skills and background, she helps us in developing the yearly budget, as well as ensure that the budget is adhered to closely. Tara understands the importance of accountability with regards to finance, and as a mother of teens herself, she enjoys serving in this capacity.
After volunteering for eight years with “Get Involved Palo Alto” and presidential award at Palo Alto high school, Wen-Jun Shen has seen the tremendous impact of community service to student’s search for their future career path. Being a first generation immigrant herself, she recognizes the desire and anxiety of stepping into society for youth and new comers. She embraces the power of listening and exploring to get a fit and growth for each individual, and would like to help youth to discover their own dream. She has been working with and would continue to work on the database of volunteers and host organizations.
After speaking to Silicon Valley students and realizing her passion for helping youth find their voices, Laura Anne Owen pursued opportunities with non-profits. She joins us with 8 years of corporate knowledge and understanding of how enterprises work, and how the changing face of Social Media plays into marketing and get the message out to connect with their audience. One of her passions is empowering youth, and her excitement to further Get Involved Foundation's mission is contagious. Laura is the owner of Pink Iron Fitness. She currently resides in Salt Lake City with her husband, twin daughters, and dog, Charlie.
Before joining the board, Evan completed a GiPA internship with City of Palo Alto Watershed. He is active in the Youth Community Service, Speech & Debate, and Science Olympiad clubs. Through his involvement, he helps provide young people with the resources and connections useful to make a positive impact in their community.
