Ann Miura-Ko, a Paly graduate, is a venture capitalist and a co-founder of an investment firm called FLOODGATE where her investment interests include the innovations in e-commerce, security, and big data. Her board seats include Modcloth, Refinery29, Chloe and Isabel, Wanelo, Ayasdi, Xamarin, Rise, and Inscopix. She was previously a board member and lead seed investor of TaskRabbit and Lyft. Prior to joining FLOODGATE, Ann worked at Charles River Ventures and McKinsey and Company as well.
In addition to serving at FLOODGATE, Ann is a lecturer in the School of Engineering at Stanford University, where she got her PhD focused on mathematical modeling of computer security.
Ann majored in electrical engineering at Yale University, where she received her BS degree. She then earned her Ph.D. In computer programming focusing on mathematical modeling of computer security at Stanford. She lives in Menlo Park with her husband and three kids.
Udacity VP of Business and Marketing
Clarissa Shen is the VP of Business and Marketing at Udacity, a for-profit educational organization offering massive open online courses. Among many previous positions, she was Senior Engagement Manager at Monitor Group, VP of Digital Media and Marketing Operations at Apollo Group, and Co-Founder and Business Development Advisor at Better Chinese LLC.
As VP of Business and Marketing, Ms. Shen builds business functions, teams, and early marketing infrastructure. She also drives strategic partnerships and operations to build a sustainable business model.
Ms. Shen received her BA in English and Environmental Studies from Williams College and her MBA from Harvard Business School.
Jon Diorio is the Group Product Manager of AdWords at Google. He has been the head of AdWords Product Marketing at Google, the VP of Marketing and Product Management at CentrPort, Inc., as well as the Director of Customer Marketing at E.piphany, Inc.
As the Group Product Manager of AdWords at Google, Mr. Diorio oversees product strategy and development for advertiser reporting, analytics, experimentation and budgeting systems. He's coming up on his 10th year at Google this summer.
Mr. Diorio has a BA in Economics from Georgetown University and a MBA from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley.
City Economic Development
Thomas grew up in Lansing, MI and has a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from Michigan State University. He moved to Palo Alto in 2001 to run a retail company and transitioned to real estate finance and banking beginning in 2007. In 2010 he became the Economic Development Manager for the City of Palo Alto, where he acts a liaison between the business community and the municipal government.
In addition to his work, he has served in many volunteer leadership positions, including as the Chair of the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce in 2008 and as the President of the Palo Alto Kiwanis Club, a local service club. He is currently the Chair-Elect of the Silicon Valley Economic Development Alliance.
